Enjoying the city

Following my normal routine I woke up ridiculously early, despite the fact that if I look to my friends and their sleeping patterns I should have been tired, but it seems I don't need the same amount of sleep as others.

I like to wake up early but it doesn't necessarily mean I leave early. Today I did though, out of the house shortly after 7, there is something special with the sounds of a city about to wake up, the sounds, the smell, the silence that you will not get later, my only regret is that I didn't take the camera.

And after a nice little walk-around I am enjoying seeing the city wake up, from a comfortable sofa, outside at a cafe with good coffee, feeling the rays of sun hitting my face, through the green spring leaves, on the chestnut tree.

This is what I love about being in a city. Not just this city, any city. So why do I do often forget it and why don't I take the opportunity to enjoy it more often?

Me, a book, a breakfast. Outside.
Alone, never lonely.

There is something peaceful about it...

California

Have a billion things to write and no time. All I can say is I just returned from the best holiday in a long time, been to California catching up with old friends and family. Not much touristing going on, mainly just catching up with people and being a world citizen - but it is such an amazing thing to do.

I am grateful for having such great friends and I am grateful for the places I get to see and the things I get to experience due to and with my friends.

Life is good!

Just wish CA was a bit closer, I spent most of my time in San Francisco but also went up north and down to LA. Really wish I had been able to spend more time in LA but you can't have it all, can you. Have several people I need to see there though. And I have to return soon!

Sweet flavour for everything

Hunting for coffee with milk in US is beginning to be quite a challenge for a lactose intolerant people like me - especially for someone who doesn't want the sweet coffee. It started with Starbucks and not it has spread like a virus, at least here in California; The Soy milk offered in many coffee places is now very often vanilla flavoured - and there are no other lactose free option!

It puzzles me why they have this (in my view horrible) alternative as the only alternative for those of us who can't handle lactose? After all there is already the option of having vanilla flavour as an add on to all coffees, so why not keep the soy milk plain and then let those who wants vanilla have vanilla? Odd. Odd indeed...

Especially in a country where they always claim the individual's right to his/her own choice.

(And on that topic: There is no way there is competition between airlines, they are all on the same scheme, when all the "low price carriers" are charging exactly the same I get very suspicious. But that is a different discussion.)

And THIS is why I don't believe in light products

Well, part from the artificial flavour, which is a good reason to skip any light /low calorie products, and the fact that I definitely don't need light products, here are the reasons:

High fructose corn syrup - the main ingredient. Cellulose gum. Some other chemicals.
Part from water there isn't really anything in there that I recognise and know where it comes from or how its produced. Well, salt I do. But the rest?

I'd be suspicious if I was to put this in my car. And in my body?!? Nah. Don't think so.

I like my body too much to use light versions of products.
I believe in using real sugar, rather have twice or three times as many calories per 100 gram or whatever it may be - and as real sugar anyhow has a - in my opinion - much better taste, and satisfy me better, I also use less, so the total intake is less. Also that total intake of calories tend to be.

Plus I do like some other people: I look at the people that buy light products and I realise there is something fishy going on: Because it is often the really big people that eat it and it is the really big people that never get smaller but only bigger..

Just saying...

For some reason I don't get a notification when someone comments anymore. Anybody know why?
